Top Story....
Smith to Race Top Fuel Dragster and Bubble Up Nastalgia Nitro Funny Car

Craig Smith plans to resume racing his Northwest based Top Fuel Dragster on the NHRA national event tour beginning in June. Along with driving his popular nitro burning Dragster, Smith will also be driving the Ron Hodgson owned Bubble Up Pacemacker Funny Car. The Funny Car is tuned by the legendary Roland Leong, who owned the long line of famous "Hawaiian" Funny Cars that headlined drag racing events across the country beginning in the late sixties through the nineties. The Funny car will race at ten events in 2009 across the USA and Canada. Smith and Hodgson, have a successful history of working together and by all accounts will have a banner year with Smith behind the wheel of both the Bubble Up Pacemacker Funny Car and his Top Fuel Dragster.
The Bubble Up funny car is the seventh member of the Auto Meter 5 Second Club and is one of the top running cars on the nostalgia drag racing circuit. In addition to the current Funny Car, Ron Hodgson has a rich history in the sport going back to the 1970's when his Pacemaker teams won six NHRA national events and set the World Speed Record in Funny Car.
As a businessman, Ron is the owner of the Ron Hodgson Group of Companies, including Ron Hodgson Pontiac Buick, Southgate Pontiac Buick and Milron Metal Fabricators. He is also co-owner of Castrol Raceway, Edmonton’s premier drag racing and oval racing facility and past owner of Edmonton International Speedway. Ron is also a past co-owner of the Edmonton Oilers hockey club and member of the Board of Directors of NAIT.
Ron Hodgson's Racing Career as an Owner at a Glance:
Ron’s racing career has spanned over 40 years during which he campaigned many winning Top Fuel and Funny cars. In 2001, Ron was inducted into the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame. Other highlights include:
• 6 NHRA National Event wins in AA Funny Car
• Won the 1979 25th Annual U.S. Nationals in Funny Car
• Set the World Speed Record in Funny Car
• Won best engineered Top Fuel car at 1987 Winternationals
• Won 3 AHRA National World Finals
• In 2004 set Canadian record at IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals
